The Studio Lord concept of “healthy interiors” means choosing materials and products that are produced responsibly and produce little or no off-gassing. We strive for designs that have minimal impact to the environment. The use of green walls, for example, can even improve the indoor climate, which is often more polluted than outside air. Specifically selected plants filter out VOCs (volatile organic compounds, or airborne pollutants) and carbon dioxide from the interior.
If it makes sense in the context of the design, we often like to use recycled materials. We prefer to call this upcycling or superuse, because the material often has a much more interesting role the second time around.
As an interior architect, I can positively influence the spaces in which we work and live. By choosing natural materials, products that don’t harm the body once they break down, and building responsibly, I design spaces and solutions that aren’t just “less bad”, but make you feel better.
I am committed to:
- using materials from sustainable, renewable, and/or recycled sources
- choosing products which are friendly to people and the environment
- building designs which are demountable, meaning that elements can be taken apart for recycling or upcycling after they served their purpose
- keeping up to date with the latest developments in material technology
- improving air quality through good ventilation and use of plants to filter out VOCs
- affordable, environmentally responsible design
Sustainability and “being green” is trendy at the moment, but I consider it a core element to my work. As a business owner I have the ability to choose the nature of my relationship with the greater world and my clients. I don’t see sustainability as a choice, but an essential part to my working method.
